Help – Programme of Study

You are currently viewing the Programme of Study for one of the curriculum subjects.

Navigating the Programme of Study:

Quick links – As the Programme of Study pages are quite lengthy, there are quick links at the top of the Programme of Study that will take you directly to the relevant section within the page.

References – Many points in the Programme of Study are related to other elements of the National Curriculum. The links to references are labeled as “Show Reference >”. Clicking on the link will open the reference in a pop-up browser window.

Marginal Notes – Some points have marginal notes added to provide clarification and further explanation of certain key concepts. The links to marginal notes are labeled “Show Note >”. Clicking on the link will open the reference in a pop-up browser window.

ICT opportunities – Points are highlighted in the Programme of Study where there is an opportunity to make use of ICT in the teaching of this requirement. The links to ICT opportunities are labeled “Show ICT >”. Clicking on the link will open the ICT opportunity in a pop-up browser window.

Supplementary information – In some instances, supplementary information is provided, usually in the form of examples to illustrate a particular concept. Supplementary information is shown in square brackets “[…]”. This text is not part of the Programme of Study itself and is provided for information purposes only.

Accessibility Note – If your browser does not support JavaScript (which may apply if you are using a text-only browser, a screen reader, or other non-standard web-browsing software), an alternative navigation system is available for some features of the Programme of Study as described below:

The links to References, Marginal Notes, and ICT opportunities will open in the same browser window, rather than a pop-up window. You can use your browser’s ‘back’ button to return to the Programme of Study after visiting one of these pages.

The supplementary information has been marked with additional ALT tags to assist with navigation. The start of each piece of supplementary information is marked with the ALT tag “Marks the start of supplementary information,” and the end is marked with the ALT tag “Marks the end of supplementary information.”

Viewing the Programme of Study for other subjects, key stages, and sections:

You can use the drop-down menus at the top right of the screen to select a specific subject, key stage, and, for the core subjects (English, Maths, and Science), a section within this key stage. After making your selections, press ‘GO’ to access the chosen section of the National Curriculum. Since you are navigating from a Programme of Study page, you will be automatically directed to the Programme of Study page for your chosen selection.

Accessibility note – If your browser does not support JavaScript (which may apply if you are using a text-only browser, a screen reader, or other non-standard web-browsing software), an alternative navigation system is available. You can select the desired subject, key stage, and section from the list of links in the middle of the screen. These links are labeled ‘Choose subject here,’ ‘Choose key stage here,’ and ‘Choose section here,’ and they perform the following actions:

Selecting one of the ‘Choose subject here’ links will take you to the home page for that subject.

Selecting one of the ‘Choose key stage here’ links will take you to the appropriate key stage within the Programme of Study for the currently selected subject.

Selecting one of the ‘Choose section here’ links will take you to the section within the Programme of Study for the currently selected subject and key stage.

Viewing the Attainment Targets:

Clicking on the ‘Attainment Targets’ link on the left-hand side of the page will direct you to the Attainment Targets for the currently selected subject.
