Learning at School

Why is my child learning about swimming and water safety?

As well as being a fun, healthy form of exercise, swimming is important because it helps children to keep safe in water.

Once they can swim, children can get involved in activities such as racing, synchronised swimming and water polo. They can also take part safely in water activities like sailing, canoeing and surfing.

What will my child learn about swimming and water safety?

Your child will learn how to:

  • move about in the water
  • float
  • go under the water confidently
  • use their arms and legs to move and swim in water
  • use different swimming strokes, such as front crawl and butterfly
  • keep safe in and around water.
